The Colorado Bend State Park Trail Project is building an extensive, multi-purpose trail system at Colorado Bend State Park, near Bend, Texas. Featuring beautiful vistas and challenging terrain, the Colorado Bend trail system appeals to hikers and mountain bikers alike. The Project is a joint venture of The Friends of Colorado Bend State Park and the mountain biking community.
The Friends of Colorado Bend State Park is a non profit organization which raises funds for CBSP. The Friends are from all over Central Texas and enjoy participating in volunteer and fundraising projects, including the Earth Day Project in the spring and the Friends Festival in the fall. When Texas Parks and Wildlife decided to expand the trail system in the park, members of the Waco Bicycle Club lent their expertise to the project. Waco Bicycle Club members have extensive trailbuilding experience in municipal parks, Corps of Engineers facilities, and on private land in the Waco area.
The proposed trail system allows access to remote areas of the park, which until recently were closed to the public. The work is slow and strenuous, but rewarding!
We have trail building weekends from time to time, in addition to other Friends Projects. If you love the outdoors and don't mind hard work, join us! Saws, pick axes, rakes, loppers and rock bars are welcome. Be sure to bring your bike so you can enjoy the fruit of your labor! Send us an email, and we'll put you on our trip notification list.
